Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes<br>

Members present:  Fr. Al DeGiacomo, Beth Rompf, Lisa Steele, Aaron Thomas, Dave Cecil and Karen Shrader<br>
<br>
<u>Welcome Reception for New Parishioners</u><br>
A new date for the Welcome Reception (hosted by the Pastoral Council and the NC Staff) for newly registered parishioners was set for Friday, November 6, at 7:30 pm.  A date change was necessary because the original date requested for the church was not available.  Sign-ups for the reception food & drinks will take place during the November 2 meeting.  Karen volunteered to check with Tim Enoch regarding the number of invitees, type of invitations and who is responsible for sending them.<br>
<br>
<u>Shaking/Holding Hands during the Flu Season</u><br>
Response has been positive regarding the “personal choice option” to shake hands during the call to worship and the sign of peace and the holding of hands during the Our Father.  However, some people have expressed concern that we as a community will permanently withdraw from the practice.  The council decided a statement will be placed in the bulletin to explain one should not feel obligated to decline the practice and it is being done only due to health concerns at present.<br>
<br>
<u>Communion/Drinking from the Cup</u><br>
Father Al relayed Bishop Gainer says drinking from the cup during communion can be dispensed of on a parish level if need is deemed during the H1N1 scare.  No action is being taken at the Holy Spirit Parish level to date.<br>
<br>
<u>Focus Groups/Campus Ministry</u><br>
Focus Groups/Campus Ministry, which is supplemental to Kevin Steele’s campus ministry, was discussed.  Matt McCartney is the leader at NC and attends the NC staff meetings.  It was suggested that a time be set up for explanation of the Focus Group/Campus Ministry and its staff for those in the parish who may be interested in its purpose and involvement with NC.<br>
<br>
<u>Pastoral Council Guidelines</u><br>
The date of the meetings should be posted in the bulletin so parishioners may attend if desired. Minutes of meetings should be posted on the bulletin board & announced in the bulletin upon availability.<br>
<br>
<u>Newman Center Website</u><br>
The council would like to see an update on the website regarding the members and purpose of the council.<br>
